Climate Crew: Restore Wet Meadows in California Park

Loading Events

Join Yampa Valley Climate Crew to restore wet meadow ecosystems using Zeedyk rock structures!

We will be working with the US Forest Service to restore wet meadows in beautiful California Park. These ecosystems are vital for water storage, carbon sequestration, and wildlife habitat, including Greater sandhill cranes, Boreal toads, Northern leopard frogs, and elk. However, erosion has disconnected these wet meadows from the floodplain, resulting in decreased water retention and loss of wetland vegetation. They are at further risk of deterioration in coming years from varying climate conditions. By using innovative restoration techniques called Zeedyk structures, we will raise the water table, improve hydrological functions, and re-establish wet meadows in California Park! Camping is encouraged if you plan to attend multiple days.

Difficulty: Hard
