For over 50 years, Alpine Bank has been guided by its mission —”To help our customers, employees, shareholders, and community members achieve their dreams”— a philosophy visible in Steamboat Springs through both its deep volunteer culture and its long-standing partnership with Yampa Valley Sustainability Council (YVSC).
Committed to community and volunteerism
Volunteerism is woven into Alpine Bank’s identity. Every employee receives 24 hours of paid time annually to serve local causes, and in Steamboat, that commitment adds up quickly. In 2024, branch employees contributed 581 hours, and by mid-2025 they have already logged more than 260 hours. Volunteering is encouraged and the bank actively works to provide team members with opportunities and flexibility within the work week to ensure that every team member is out in the community making a difference.
Volunteering is at the core of the organization’s culture and part of what makes working for Alpine Bank special. Staff members can be found mentoring students, assisting at events, and pitching in on local initiatives during the workweek, with full support from the bank’s leadership.
Caring for the Yampa Valley
Alpine Bank’s partnership with YVSC spans more than five years, with steadily growing financial support. Yet the relationship extends far beyond sponsorship. The banks support helps provide growth and opportunity in YVSC’s priority programs, including:
- Yampa Valley Recycles Depot – The Yampa Valley Recycles Depot offers residents a convenient, year-round outlet for hard-to-recycle materials such as electronics, batteries, bulbs, and printer cartridges. In 2024 alone, more than 40,000 pounds of these items were diverted from the landfill through the Depot. Additionally, the bank’s annual Shred Events ensure that customers and community members can all safely dispose of paper documents and recycle unwanted printers and cartridges, keeping all of these items out of the landfill.
- CARbon-Free Challenge – Taking place every June, YVSC’s CARbon-Free Challenge encourages residents to commute by bike, foot, or other alternative transportation, saving over 500 gallons of gas last year. Alpine Bank’s efforts go one step further: they purchased two e-bikes so that their employees could cruise around town, run errands and grab lunch with friends without getting back in their cars. The bikes often go home with employees on the weekend who will use them for commuting
- Next Generation Newsletter and Climate Corner – New generations bring fresh ideas and energy to the future, and YVSC’s Next Generation Newsletter gives young people a platform to share their voices on climate action. Similarly, YVSC’s Climate Corner Substack delivers accessible, science-based stories that help community members of all ages better understand local climate solutions. Together, these efforts — backed by Alpine Bank — empower residents to stay informed, take action, and build a more sustainable Yampa Valley.
- Sustainability Soirée and Insight: Art for Climate Action – as title sponsor for both events, Alpine Bank helps bring together our community to celebrate and fund climate initiatives.
Fun fact you might not know
Most people know Alpine Bank as a leading Colorado-based community bank, but many are surprised to learn about the Loyalty Debit Card program. Each time a customer makes a purchase, Alpine Bank donates 10 cents to local nonprofits. In 2024, this added up to $2.62 million statewide — a powerful example of how everyday banking can create lasting impact.
Through their support, Alpine Bank amplifies YVSC’s mission to create a more sustainable Yampa Valley and ensures local residents have access to practical solutions — from recycling electronics to cutting emissions through everyday choices.
